Active Emulsions

We aim at creating a new class of active materials with unique on demand properties.  This dream could be achieved by render a simple emulsion, a.k.a. yield stress fluids, active thanks to the addition of active agents. We will use light-responsive microalgae as active units to tame the rheology of the emulsion. The project involves characterizing the algae locomotion and survival in presence of the difference emulsion’s components, formulating different emulsions, and investigating the rheological behavior of the emulsion in the presence of light sensitive algae. If you are interested in exploring the world of active emulsion and want to develop your skills in confocal fluorescence microscopy, Python-based image and data processing, rheology of complex fluids, reach out to us via email!
